Zoom and Gloom

Most of us have probably done the “tie up top, shorts below” Zoom call at this point and who hasn’t juggled a few plants and books to improve their peripheral mise en scène? But this psychopath takes off-screen antics to another level. Give him a break, though — before the pandemic struck he probably had a cubicle in a downtown office where he was the life of in-person meetings and known for his oozy shoulder rubs and powerful cologne. Thanks to delicious bat stew he was forced to convert his satanic trophy dungeon into a home office. I’m told there are tax benefits.

Increased Market Scare

They say the only way a business survives is through expansion, and a horror movie franchise is certainly a business. Although there are a couple of killer Santas known to pop up around Christmas, no one pays them much attention except on late night cable. If they have a gripe with this cartoon they can take it up with Michael.

A couple thoughts on that kill chart in the comic — although Jason Voorhees currently leads over Michael Myers in horror movie carnage, there are currently two Halloween movies slated to be released in 2020 and 2021 while the Friday the 13th franchise is still tied up in legal limbo (the last Friday the 13th movie was in 2008). So look for Michael’s body count to surpass Jason’s in the next couple of years!

There is an idea of a Felix Catman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my feline gaze and you can shake my paw and feel claws gripping you and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

GENESIS OF A GRINSANE CARTOON

I saw American Psycho again lately, and the infernal cats have been killing things in the backyard, so that’s most likely the Genesis (a Bateman favorite), of this cartoon. Of course, if you haven’t seen the movie, this cartoon won’t make any sense. I think the film holds up pretty well after 20 years – there are even a couple of remarkably appropriate Trump references in there. There’s no real punch line in this comic – mostly I just wanted to draw this Grinsane cat running down a hallway with a chainsaw. Originally I drew tennis shoes on the cat to better match the movie and then it seemed a much better idea to give the krazy kitty natural boots from white fur.

Teddy bears, candy hearts, crossbows… truly the Val-Mart Valentine’s Day Superstore has everything you need for a successful V-Day no matter the state of your relationship. With places like Spirit Halloween colonizing empty warehouses every time October rolls around, it’s only a matter of time before something like this appears in February to outfit Cupid’s favorite day on the calendar.

What exactly is Mr. Black Sweatsuit planning to do with that spade and ballista? Don’t jump to conclusions — winter gardening is a real thing and more and more women are hunting nowadays, so I’m sure the man’s product selection is completely benevolent and has nothing to do with, um, him going back on the singles market.
