Spiderman gets a rude awakening to the web of power relationships in society.
Peter Parker the Appropriator
Spiders are known to be quite sensitive so it’s unsurprising that some individual spiders might take offense at humans who mimic them and appropriate spider things for their own gain.
Climbing walls, spraying goo from his fingertips, and wearing webby clothing are shameless appropriations of spider culture and it’s about time someone called Spiderman out. Just because you get bit by a radioactive spider doesn’t make you a real spider.
For all the spidery things that Spiderman does, has he ever taken in an interest in protecting actual spiders like the endangered Poecilotheria Tarantula or given back to the spider community in some way? Hardly. Instead, he adopts the trappings of spiders to promote his own self interest and that of the mostly white humans he protects.
Batman, Catwoman, Ant Man… these shameless thieves have it coming too.
